At home I play a Kawai grand piano. On the road I take my trusty Roland RD800 when I need to provide my own keyboard, and also use MainStage for theatre work and synth/sample gigs. Though I think of myself more as a pianist than a keyboardist, I'm fairly adept at creating the organ, synth, and orchestral sounds needed for jazz, rock, and particularly musical theatre work.

While working as pianist and musical director for cruise ship house bands I was called upon to adapt to a wide array of different styles and contexts, working with talented (and sometimes very demanding) guest musicians in classical, jazz, folk and pop styles (not to mention comedians who sing!).

You don't usually get much rehearsal time on the ships, but you have to make it sound like you've been rehearsing for weeks! My sight-reading skills are pretty top-notch, and there isn't much that phases me or surprises me. I'm sure I do some things better than others, but there aren't too many piano or keyboard jobs that I won't do pretty well (as long as you don't want me to play something by Sorabji!).
